The last three days of GDC were a blur of activity, meet ups, and drinking.

Lots of drink.

Lots,

And lots,

And lots of drinking.

In a lot of ways GDC is about parties and group hangouts, like how the writers always made it back to Golden Gate Tab Room for the last two hours of business. I ended every day at 3 in the morning and started it 3 hours later, because homework needed to be done before the first talks at 9:30 or 10am.

I saw some interesting talks about Aliens: Isolation, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and a rant about how to make FAT sexy in games. I meet some cool people, and some that I’d rather not see again. The Dallas Dev crew I ran around with came up with some awesome hash tags, because drinking makes everything funny and needs a hash tag. I ended most of my nights (mornings because it was usually 2am when we ate) at Lori’s Diner and got to know the waitress that unfortunately had to cater to my rowdy group.

The highlight of my GDC was Friday and the Pirate Bar. As you can tell by the title of this post, we were a bit loud, but it was a blast! Surprisingly I didn’t end up with a massive hangover considering the amount I had drank, I guess Lori’s French toast and three glasses of water helped with that. Later, after the fun at the Pirate Bar, I got to spend time with my best friend, and hear about his successful GDC.

GDC is truly a different world. People who love games and making games getting together to share ideas and success, makes it a unique place. I would like to attend every year. So far I’ve done that since 2009.

Well back to the grinding board. I’m finishing up my Master’s Degree and don’t have time for the post-GDC blues.
